As a social intern, my daily responsibilities were to write copy for incoming stories and schedule them for Twitter and Facebook. Over the course of this internship I learned more about video editing and found an affinity for editing videos for TikTok. I clipped and edited video for two major news events, the death of Queen Elizabeth and the 2022 Midterms, condensing news into short videos optimized for a TikTok audience.

One of the most daunting tasks from this internship was live tweeting and clipping video, particularly for the January 6 committee hearings. Over time I became more comfortable doing it, although it was a challenge to work on clipping and writing for a particular moment while also paying attention to what was currently being said.

Gallery Books
Gallery Books is an imprint of Simon & Schuster dedicated to publishing exemplary fiction and nonfiction books.
I worked as a marketing intern in my time at Gallery, conducting influencer research and outreach, creating assets in Canva and filming and editing TikToks/Reels.
For the below videos, which were posted to Instagram Reels and TikTok, I created two similar vidoes with different approaches. One aimed to engage a viewer with a shortened summary of the book, while the other used quotes from the book in the hopes of dropping the viewer in the middle of the action and getting them to want to know more.
One of my favorite projects to work on was creating assets for a Christina Lauren reading guide, organizing the books by spice level and getting to get creative with my copy.
Vox Magazine
Vox Magazine is a small-city magazine that focuses on culture, city life, reviews and tips and trends.
I worked as a social media manager for Vox for the Spring 2022 semester, working with a social media team and alternating weeks in which I would handle either Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok, newsletters or an analytics report. When working a social media shift, I wrote social media posts for my assigned platform as well as managed the activity for that account, including liking, commenting and sharing related content.
I’ve chosen to include image descriptions below each embedded post because the embedded posts do not allow me to add alt text into the code itself. Alt text is read aloud to users by screen reader software and indexed by search engines, aiding someone who is blind or has low vision to understand what the image is on the page. Not only does adding alt text make the content more accessible, but it improves overall usability as well. When a broken link or error may cause the image to not show up, alt text can serve as a supplement and tell the user what the image is.
